Jacksonville Dog Boarding With Built-In Veterinary Support

Leaving your dog somewhere overnight takes trust. You need to know they'll be safe, comfortable, and genuinely cared for — not just fed and walked on a schedule while someone watches the clock. Most boarding facilities in Jacksonville can handle the basics. But when something goes wrong — a GI upset, an allergic reaction, an injury during play — most facilities have to call you, call a vet, arrange transport, and hope everything works out. That gap between "something happened" and "someone qualified responded" is where real problems develop.

At SJB Pet Services, boarding happens inside SJB Animal Care Center — a full-service veterinary facility at 2520 Saint Johns Bluff Road. Licensed veterinarians and trained medical staff are on-site during business hours. If your dog shows signs of illness, develops a symptom, or needs medical attention during their stay, the response isn't a phone call to an outside clinic. It's a walk down the hall.

That's not a marketing line. It's a structural advantage that changes how boarding works for your dog. And for families who already bring their pets to SJB for veterinary care, it means your dog's complete medical history, vaccination records, and known health concerns are already in the system — no paperwork gaps, no guessing about allergies or medications.

Boarding Options for Every Dog in Jacksonville

Standard Overnight Boarding

Your dog gets a clean, climate-controlled space with supervised daytime care and play included in every overnight stay. Dogs are grouped by size and temperament for supervised socialization during the day, then returned to their individual spaces for rest. Fresh water, scheduled meals (bring your dog's regular food or we can provide in-house options), and multiple outdoor breaks throughout the day keep your dog comfortable and active. Check-in runs from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and check-out is 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM — structured times that keep the facility calm and give every dog a consistent routine.

Standard boarding is built for healthy dogs who are current on vaccinations, sociable with other dogs, and ready for a comfortable stay while you're away. Boarding rates vary by your dog's size, and multi-dog households receive a discount when boarding together.

Medically Dependent Boarding

This is where SJB does something most boarding facilities in Jacksonville simply cannot. Dogs with chronic conditions — diabetes, heart disease, seizure disorders, post-surgical recovery, mobility issues — need boarding too. But traditional kennels either refuse them outright or accept them without the medical knowledge to manage their care safely.

Because SJB Pet Services operates inside a veterinary hospital, medically dependent boarding means your dog's medications are administered by trained veterinary staff on their exact schedule. Insulin injections, fluid therapy, pain management, post-op monitoring — all handled by the same team that manages their medical care during regular appointments. If a condition flares or something changes overnight, the response happens in-house. No frantic phone calls. No emergency transport to a separate clinic. For senior dogs, dogs recovering from surgery, or dogs with complex health needs, medically dependent boarding isn't just convenient — it's the responsible choice.

Veterinary Care During Boarding

Boarding stays at SJB can double as an opportunity to knock out routine medical care. Need your dog's annual exam? Vaccine boosters due? Dental cleaning been on the list for months? Our veterinary team can schedule and perform standard medical appointments while your dog is already here — so your pet comes home groomed, healthy, and up to date, and you've saved yourself an extra trip.
This also works for dogs staying for grooming or future daycare visits. If medical care is on the to-do list, bundling it with a service visit keeps things simple.

Add Grooming to Any Boarding Stay

Your dog's already here — why not send them home looking their best? Our professional groomer Diana Turner (19+ years of experience) offers Bath & Brush, Mini Groom, and Full Groom services that can be scheduled during your dog's boarding stay. Sedated grooming is also available for dogs that need veterinary-assisted calm during the process. Ask about add-on spa treatments — blueberry facials, de-shed treatments, luxe mud conditioning — and your dog comes home from boarding cleaner, healthier, and more relaxed than when they arrived.

Healthy Stay Advantage

The Healthy Stay Advantage: A Benefit Nobody Else Offers

Most boarding facilities charge you full price if your dog gets sick during their stay. At SJB, families who maintain their pet's annual wellness care at SJB Animal Care Center get something different: the Healthy Stay Advantage.

Here's what that means in practice:

Medical Support During Stays: If your dog develops a mild illness while boarding with us — a stomach bug, an ear flare-up, an unexpected reaction — you receive 50% off the exam fee. The veterinary team is already on-site, your dog's records are already in the system, and treatment can begin the same day. You're still responsible for medications, diagnostics, and any treatment beyond the exam, and it doesn't apply if your pet arrives already showing symptoms. But for illnesses that develop during a stay, this removes a significant barrier to getting your dog seen quickly.

Vaccine Support: Boarding dogs need current Bordetella protection. Families enrolled in the Healthy Stay Advantage receive 50% off the 6-month Bordetella booster — keeping your dog protected and boarding-ready without the extra cost. Your pet must be current on their annual exam and all required vaccinations at SJB to qualify.

This program exists because integrated care should actually mean something. When you trust SJB with both your pet's medical and boarding needs, that trust comes with tangible benefits that protect your dog and your wallet.

Why Boarding at a Veterinary Facility Is the Smarter Choice

You have options for dog boarding in Jacksonville. Pet resorts, standalone kennels, in-home pet sitters, and big-box retail boarding all compete for your business. Here's what separates SJB from all of them:

Medical emergencies don't require a car ride.

At a standard kennel, if your dog has a seizure, an allergic reaction, or a GI obstruction, someone has to recognize it, call you, call a vet clinic, arrange transport, and get your dog there in time. At SJB, the veterinary team is in the building. Response time drops from hours to minutes.

Medications are administered by medical professionals.

Boarding staff at non-veterinary facilities are usually well-meaning but untrained in medication administration. At SJB, your dog's meds are handled by the same licensed team that prescribes them. Dosing accuracy, timing, and monitoring are built into the process — not improvised.

Your dog's health record follows them everywhere in the building.

Boarding, grooming, medical — it's all one integrated system. No forms to fill out at a separate clinic. No vaccination records to dig out of your email. No communication gaps between your vet and your boarding provider. The people caring for your dog during a boarding stay are the same people who know their health history inside and out.

Supervised play is standard, not an upgrade.

Daytime care and socialization are included with every boarding stay. Your dog isn't sitting in a kennel all day waiting for you to come back. They're active, engaged, and supervised by staff who understand dog behavior and body language.

HOURS, POLICIES & REQUIREMENTS

Boarding Hours & What to Know Before Your Dog's Stay

Business Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Boarding Check-In: 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Boarding Check-Out: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Pick-ups after 12:00 PM are charged as an additional day. Pick-ups after 6:00 PM are not available. A boarding night is defined as any stay extending past 6:00 PM.

Holiday & peak periods

Holiday boarding applies to federal bank holidays, the day before and after Thanksgiving and Christmas, and New Year's Eve. Book early during these periods — availability fills quickly.

What to bring:

Your dog's regular food (we can provide in-house food for a small fee if needed), any medications with clear dosing instructions, and a familiar blanket or toy if it helps them settle. Medication administration is available for a per-dose fee.

What your dog needs before boarding:

All dogs must be current on required vaccinations and pass a temperament evaluation before their first boarding stay. If your dog's vaccines need updating, our veterinary team can handle that — often during the same visit. SJB Pet Services may close due to severe weather or emergencies; you'll be contacted directly if this affects your reservation.

How Boarding Works at SJB Pet Services

Step 1: Reservation & Health Verification

Call us or submit an online request to reserve your dates. Before your dog's first stay, we verify vaccination records and schedule a temperament evaluation. If anything needs updating, our vet team handles it on-site.

Step 2: Check-In & Settling

Arrive during check-in hours (12:00 PM – 4:00 PM). Our team reviews your dog's feeding schedule, medication needs, and any behavioral notes. Your dog is introduced to their space and given time to acclimate before joining group activities.

Step 3: Supervised Daily Routine

Every boarding dog gets structured daytime activity. Supervised play sessions are grouped by size and temperament. Multiple outdoor breaks, fresh water, and meals on your dog's regular schedule keep things consistent. Staff monitor energy levels and behavior throughout the day — dogs that need extra rest get quiet time; dogs that thrive on activity get engaged play.

Step 4: Overnight Care

Dogs return to their individual spaces for the evening. The facility is climate-controlled, clean, and secure. Dogs on medications receive their evening doses on schedule, administered by trained staff.

Step 5: Check-Out & Updates

Pick up your dog during check-out hours (8:00 AM – 12:00 PM). Our team lets you know how the stay went — eating habits, energy level, socialization behavior, and anything worth noting. If grooming or medical services were added during the stay, you'll get those updates too.
